Work Preparation Programme

What is the Work Preparation Programme?
It is an individually tailored, flexible programme designed to help people build their confidence and work-related skills, and so enable them to improve their employment prospects.
Who is eligible?
Anyone in receipt of Incapacity Benefit
Areas covered
This programme is provided by Network Personnel in the following District Council areas:
- Magherafelt
- Cookstown
- Limavady
- Coleraine
- Antrim
- Ballymena
- Ballymoney
- Dungannon
Clients will complete a personal assessment with the WPP support worker before they begin this programme. This is essential so that a client’s skills, barriers to employment etc are identified. This will enable an appropriate action plan to be drawn up to ensure that the client gets the most out of the programme and fulfils their objectives.
There are 2 main elements to the Work Preparation Programme:
- In-house training
- A suitable work placement
In-house training
Clients attend in-house training prior to beginning their voluntary work placement. The purpose of this training is to help clients build the skills required to job search effectively and develop their work related skills through delivering relevant training specific to each client’s needs.
In-house training helps with the following:
- Confidence building
- Assertiveness training
- Completing application forms
- CV building
- Interview skills
- Health and Safety induction
- Monitoring progress through weekly telephone or face-to-face meetings to discuss progress and deal with any concerns that the client may have regarding their placement
- If appropriate set up extra support to facilitate the client’s progress with their work placement, such as introducing a buddy system
- Completion of a mid-term review to ensure that the client is getting the most out of their work placement
- Completion of a final report to discuss the success of the work placement and decide what the client wants to do next to further their journey into suitable employment
Work placement
Once a client has completed their in-house training they will begin their voluntary 10-12 week work placement. Provision of a suitable work placement will help to reinforce the skills developed through in-house training and build on work experience.
For the duration of the work placement clients will receive the following support:
